Glossary “non volatile memory” Definition:
Memory that is retained in the computer, not affected by applied voltage.

Glossary “non repetitive pulse” Definition:
Random electrical signal, with no specific pattern or frequency.

Glossary “non retorque head gasket” Definition:
Non retorque head gaskets compress less than conventional gaskets, so the head does not require retorquing.

Glossary “non servo” Definition:
Type of drum brake in which the brake shoes work independently of each other.

Glossary “non slip differential” Definition:
A differential that is designed so that when one wheel slips, the major portion of the driving power is transferred to the non-slipping wheel.

Glossary “non synchronized” Definition:
Relating to injector control, these are fuel pulses not related to the RPM reference. ECM control of the fuel injectors is not directly related to ignition reference signals.

Glossary “non load carrying ball joint” Definition:
Ball joint designed with a preload which provides damping action that maintains suspension component location but does not support the chassis weight. Also known as a stabilizing ball joint.

Glossary “non hunting gear set” Definition:
When one tooth on the pinion gear will mesh with the same tooth on the ring gear again and again, rather than “hunting” for all of the rest of the teeth.

Glossary “non leaded gasoline” Definition:
Term used for unleaded gasoline.

Glossary “non live axle” Definition:
Non driven truck axle that is held off the road when the vehicle is empty and put on the road when a load is being carried, used extensively in eastern states with high per-axle weight laws.

Glossary “non load bearing ball joint” Definition:
Term used for non load carrying ball joint.

Glossary “non bleeder spray gun” Definition:
Type of spray gun that releases air only when the trigger is pulled back. It has an air control valve. The trigger controls both fluid needle movement and the air control valve.

Glossary “non destructive test (NDT)” Definition:
Method of testing without causing damage.

Glossary “non hardening” Definition:
A gasket sealer that never hardens.
