high swirl combustion (HSC)

Glossary “high swirl combustion (HSC)” Definition:
Ford’s name for a cylinder head and valve design that promotes turbulence in the combustion chamber during the power stroke, contributing to complete and efficient burning of the A/F charge.

high side service valve

Glossary “high side service valve” Definition:
Device located on the discharge side of the compressor, permitting the service technician to check the high-side pressures and perform other necessary operations.

high pressure side

Glossary “high pressure side” Definition:
1). Part of an A/C system, from the compressor outlet to the evaporator inlet, that is under high pressure. 2). Any part of a system, such as fuel injection, that is under high pressure.

high riser

Glossary “high riser” Definition:
1). The raised cylinder heads of the 427 cid Ford engine of the 60’s. 2). Term given to a manifold that places the carburetor above its original design location.

high pressure relief valve

Mechanical device designed so that it releases the extreme high pressures of the system to the atmosphere, used to protect the system from high pressures.

high pressure line

Glossary “high pressure line” Definition:
1). Lines or hoses from the compressor outlet to the metering device inlet of an A/C system. 2). Any line or hose that carries high-pressure liquid or gas, such as a power steering pressure hose.
