Glossary “ping” Definition:
Mild knock noise from the engine. Secondary rapid burning of the A/F mixture in the combustion chamber causing a second flame front that collides with the first flame front producing a knock noise. Also known as detonation or spark knock.

PIN

Glossary “PIN” Definition:
1). Acronym for product identification number. 2). A threaded tapered metal part used to repair cracks in castings such as an engine block using a process called pinning. 3). Device used to retain parts in alignment.

pilot bushing

Glossary “pilot bushing” Definition:
A plain bearing fitted in the end of the crankshaft. The primary purpose is to support the input shaft of the transmission.

pilot model

Glossary “pilot model” Definition:
The first vehicle of a new design to be constructed on the assembly line to test the assembly procedures and fixtures before full-scale production begins.
